Isle City of Alameda Business and Professional Women (BPW) mourn the loss of an active and dedicated member, Kathryn Ann Washington.
At the time Kathy succumbed to a heart attack, she represented the California Federation as its Vice President, Finance and Administration/Treasurer, as well as Bay Capital District Treasurer and Isle City Treasurer.
Kathy, an Oakland resident, was a long-time member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union and the Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She owned and operated a bookkeeping and tax preparation business in West Oakland. Kathy is survived by her husband, Junius, and her children, Travis Jones, Troy Jones and Teresa Jones.
Over the years, Kathy served the many organizations to which she belonged and her community. In 2003, as VP Legislation and Public Policy, Kathy conducted BPW/CA's Government in Action Conference and lobbying day in Sacramento.
In 2000-2001, Kathy served as Bay Capital District President, as well as a member of the Governance Board to develop loan procedures for HUD money given to Oakland. She helped to establish a low-income, community-based credit union, which was launched in West Oakland in 2001 as the Peoples Community Partnership FCU. She was also community elected as a business representative for the 7th Street McClymonds Initiative, a program to help better the West Oakland community.
In 1998, Kathyn was sworn in as a Commissioner of the City of Oakland's Public Ethics Commission. In 1997, Kathy was appointed to the Friends of Park and Recreation, which raises funds for parks projects, and was a volunteer for the Policy of Enhanced Enterprise Community project.
Earlier, Kathy served as President of BPW of Oakland, Inc. local organization and received its Woman of Achievement Award.
